Wellington city mission

About the Wellington City Mission

We have been walking alongside people and whānau in the Wellington region for more than 120 years.

Over the years, we continue to evolve to meet the needs of our community.

Today, we offer a wide range of services – from transitional housing and food support to community and peer support programmes – all designed to address the underlying challenges people face and create lasting, positive change.

Everything we do is grounded in dignity, choice, and the belief that everyone deserves empowerment and fullness of life. We’re here for anyone who needs support, working together to build a stronger, more connected community for all.

The core values that make us

who we are

Tūmanako

Hope is at the core of what we do. We help everyone we work with to see a way through the challenges they are facing.

Manaakitanga

Through hospitality and compassion, we give what we have in our welcoming of all people.

Whanaungatanga

Creating community where there is no ‘us and them’ means offering opportunity for everyone to belong.

Aroha

Love defines and provides the reason for everything we do as an organisation.

Here at the Wellington City Mission, we believe in the unshakeable goodness

of every person.

If people occasionally behave badly, it’s not because of their lack of goodness, but because of their trauma, their unwellness, or the experiences they have had, or are having.

As we strive towards empowerment, transformation and fullness of life for our community, our belief in unshakable goodness helps us ensure nobody gets left behind.

Our focus

Our focus is whānau-led support, advocacy and building community differently.

Our approach

We deliver all of our services with dignity, respect and without judgement.

Our purpose

We work every day to strive for a community that is empowered, transformed and experiencing fullness of life.
